New Ways for Old

I awoke up at 6:30AM today and realized that I would have been on the road at that time, just entering the xway into Boston. I have a strange feeling not sure what it is. Maybe its the call from Donna the secretary asking me if I'll be late.
As Jo and I headed home from Maine yesterday we passed by the exit for my former high school. I joked about my arms steering the car toward the old place, but the reality is that I did not want to ‘go’ there. Our 'time' together had passed. Like buying new shoes...your old ones suddenly seem you know older and the ‘Why did I wear them so long?' sets in. My new 'shoes' are already comfortable. I'll throw the old ones away or give them to someone who can get more years out of them. It's time to do things differently. Move the towels to a different drawer, place the cooking pots on different shelves, change where bureau dressers are, buy new drapes for the big room, give away the place settings that you have sat down to thanksgiving after thanksgiving and get new, less expensive ones at Christmas Tree shops. Do many things differently. See the old in a new way. Go to the restaurant you have been saying you would like to go to. Sit in church at Sunday services in a new seat. Get rid of all the piles of papers, notes, wine corks, plastic containers, plastic bags that you have saved for the need that never materialized. Get the new shoes you have just purchased out of the boxes and give away the old ones, and yes, throwaway the boxes too! Give away the clothes that you will never fit again to someone in need. The shoes, clothes and yup...even the socks, served me well, but the new ones are ready to take me to new places...and they look great! Now...where is that advert for the beautiful Harley-Davidson ? mmmmmmmmm...
