Accelerated Motor Skill Development

1. Introduce technique: example- Fending/spearing elbow

2. Student practices 25 repetitions in slow clean form in the air. Then 10 strikes from left and right arms.

3. Student imagines practicing the technique from 3rd person perspective 10x then 10x in first person.

4. Use visual swish. Make the stimulus big (for fending, do both the hook and jab) swish with the desired response (fend/spear). 10x

5. Auto pilot to success verbally counting the seconds out loud and guiding the student through the technique. 6. Physically practice 10x or more. Notice results

I use this with my combatives students. It works really well especially with instilling instinctive startle responses to hostile action/ambushes. Programing the spearing elbow as a default response is not easy but using the above technique has made it much easier. Students report increased confidence as well due to the ability to learn it quickly and efficiently employ the technique with out much thought.

I also use NLP for creating and anchoring the combative mindset and turning fear into power.
